Changpeng “CZ” Zhao denies agreeing to provide evidence against Tron’s Justin Sun as part of a plea deal with the DOJ. CZ served four months in prison for AML violations in April 2024. Sun claims unawareness of rumors, calling CZ a mentor and friend. CZ suspects lobbying efforts against him in the US.

CZ speculates the WSJ report could be linked to lobbying against him. In November 2023, Zhao claimed FTX sought to increase market share by cracking down on Binance. Crypto firms spent over $134 million on the 2024 US elections, raising regulatory concerns. CZ has not provided further details on the lobbying claims.
