Zelle does not have to adhere to the $600 tax reporting rule like PayPal, Venmo, and Cash App. While Zelle transfers money differently, income received through the network for goods and services is still taxable and must be reported on your federal tax return. Zelle is not ceasing operations, but its standalone mobile app has been discontinued. The focus will now be on supporting Zelle through its network of banks and credit unions, clarifying its role as a direct money transfer service and alleviating confusion about tax reporting obligations.
