Al Etihad Payments partners with Discover, Mastercard, UnionPay, and Visa to enhance Jaywan, the UAE’s Domestic Card Scheme, enabling international transactions while maintaining a strong domestic payment network. Jaywan cardholders will have access to global transactions while UAE transactions will still go through UAESWITCH.
UAE will introduce debit and prepaid co-badged cards through Jaywan for everyday use, salary disbursements, and cross-border payments. Financial institutions are set to issue these cards from the second half of 2025, providing international acceptance for cardholders to use abroad. This move aims to expand Jaywan’s reach to international merchants and online platforms.
Al Etihad Payments chairman, Saif Al Dhaheri, emphasizes Jaywan’s role in strengthening UAE’s financial infrastructure, supporting economic growth and digital transformation. Recently, Al Etihad also partnered with UnionPay International to introduce co-badge cards in the UAE, combining Jaywan’s domestic network with UnionPay’s global reach spanning over 180 countries and regions.
