Artificial intelligence startups dominated global venture capital investments in Q1 2025, with 57.9% of VC dollars going to AI and machine learning companies. North America saw 70% of venture funding channeled into AI startups. The global AI sector raised $73 billion in the first quarter, with OpenAI securing $40 billion in funding.
In comparison, crypto and blockchain startups raised $4.8 billion in Q1, a significant increase from the previous quarter. The biggest deal was Abu Dhabi’s MGX investing $2 billion in Binance. This marked the largest quarter for crypto venture capital since Q3 2022. Crypto VCs are showing increased interest in the sector with a more favorable regulatory environment in the US.
