The Indonesian Government has raised royalty rates for nickel, tin, and other metal producers to fund President Prabowo Subianto’s key policies, including a new state investment fund and free school lunches. Royalties will now vary with commodity prices, with nickel ore production facing a variable tax rate of 14% to 19%. Lower-grade ore processed into battery-grade nickel will have a reduced 2% royalty. The new royalty regime will take effect 15 days after April 11. Indonesian mining stocks, including coal companies like PT Bumi Resources and PT Indika Energy, saw a rally in share prices post-announcement.
