Mortgage Rates Remain Below 7% Threshold For 13th Consecutive Week

Mortgage rates rose slightly from last week but are still below 7% for the 13th week in a row, according to Freddie Mac. The 30-year fixed-rate mortgage averaged 6.83% on April 17, 2025, up from 6.62% last week and lower than 7.1% a year ago. The 15-year fixed-rate mortgage averaged 6.03%, up from 5.82% last week and lower than 6.39% a year ago. Freddie Mac’s Chief Economist noted that rates remain below 7% and homebuying demand is stronger this year compared to last year’s spring season.
