Blackstone, Vanguard, and Wellington Management are teaming up to offer individual investors access to private and public markets through multi-asset investment solutions. Blackstone COO Jon Gray sees this as a way to make institutional-quality investing available to individuals. Blackstone reports first quarter earnings on Thursday amid a 22% stock decline this year.
Other big private equity giants like Apollo, Partners Group, and KKR are also collaborating with asset managers to provide more private funds for Main Street investors. BlackRock CEO Larry Fink encourages investors to diversify into private market assets like real estate, infrastructure, and private credit. The hope is for the Trump administration to make it easier for retirement savers to access private assets through their 401(k)s.
While the Biden administration hasn’t been keen on this idea, industry experts are optimistic that a potential second term for President Trump could lead to more access to private assets in 401(k)s. The administration’s focus on loosening financial regulations could pave the way for increased demand for non-listed illiquid investments in retirement plans.
