Technology stocks led the gains, while financials and chemicals saw mixed performances. The Dow dropped over 500 points, with UnitedHealth falling 22.4%. Initial U.S. jobless claims decreased slightly, but new residential construction in March fell more than expected. Oil prices rose sharply due to concerns about Iranian oil export sanctions.
