Sibanye-Stillwater is set to acquire Metallix Refining, a US-based metals recycler, for $82m, enhancing its global recycling footprint and technology. Metallix specializes in producing recycled precious metals and has processed 4.2 million pounds of waste materials in the past year, producing various metals like gold, copper, and platinum.
The integration of Metallix’s operations with Sibanye-Stillwater’s recycling facilities is expected to strengthen logistical capabilities and enhance sourcing materials from diverse regions. The acquisition is projected to bring significant value uplift through synergies and positive earnings and cash flow from Metallix.
Sibanye-Stillwater CEO Neal Froneman expressed excitement about adding Metallix to their recycling operations, expecting positive impacts on their urban mining strategy. The acquisition, pending regulatory approvals, is anticipated to be finalized in the third quarter of 2025. Additionally, Sibanye-Stillwater reported a 17% increase in the projected cost of its Keliber lithium project in Finland.
