AMC Entertainment CEO Adam Aron suffered a minor stroke last month but is recovering rapidly and will continue to lead the company. Aron, 71, suffered the stroke while in London but has shown no loss of cognitive brain function and is expected to make a full recovery.
Despite the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, AMC has not yet fully recovered. The rise of streaming services has also impacted movie theaters, with people choosing to stay home to watch movies and shows.
Retail investors fueled a surge in AMC stock during the meme stock craze, sending shares soaring to nearly $340 in June 2021. However, the stock has since collapsed and is now trading just above $2.
Aron led AMC’s foray into cryptocurrency in 2021, accepting digital coins as payment for tickets and issuing NFTs to ticket buyers and shareholders. As of the third quarter of 2025, AMC has about 860 theaters and 9,600 screens worldwide.
